Corporal Punishment in Schools
When sending your children off to school, would you imagine that someone else is allowed to physically discipline them?

When you send your children off to school, do you believe you're sending them to a safe and loving learning environment? Are you aware that some states still allow schools to physically discipline your child?

Corporal punishment is banned in only 27 US states, and a few allow it with certain restrictions. The states that prohibit corporal punishment in standards for licensing child care programs allow exemptions for certain types of programs or under certain conditions.1

Corporal punishment is still legal in 23 US states. What is this teaching our children? Are they learning violence from a source that should be teaching peace? According to The National Association for the Education of Young Children: "The institutional use of corporal punishment in such situations teaches children that physical solutions to problems are acceptable for adults and that aggression is an appropriate way to control the behavior of other people".2 The NAEYC's Code of Ethical Conduct - Section I - Ethical responsibilities to Children Principles (P-1.1) states: "Above all, we shall not harm children. We shall not participate in practices that are disrespectful, degrading, dangerous, exploitative, intimidating, emotionally damaging, or physically harmful to children".

We invite you to become more informed by reading the following information, and to challenge what is accepted by many.
