Young children are open to all sorts of learning, including music. Studies have shown that early music exposure can enhance early childhood development and spatial reasoning. Just listening to music brings the possibility of further developing a child's ability to form mental images of physical objects; recognize variations of objects; and to perceive the visual world accurately.
Children don't have to have formal musical training in order to reap the benefits. Play music for them often; sing songs with them; let them enjoy playing instruments and making music while listening to music. Besides being beneficial to them...it's an enjoyable activity that comes naturally to children, as well as adults!
