Calories Burned Calculator

Find out how many calories you've burned by putting in your weight and number of miles run. In response to the numerous emails we received, asking if this calculator could also be used for walking, so we've included some information above the calculator. If you've found this calculator useful, please let us know!

Using twenty subjects who walked and ran at various speeds, researchers found that the subjects burned the same number of calories at 5 mph. Although running calories were consistently higher than walking calories at speeds below 5 mph, walking calories increased faster with speed than running calories.

According to the NIH, to lose one U.S. pound (.454 kg) you must burn 3,500 more calories than you take in. Most individuals in the U.S. eat about 2,200 calories per day.

* These figures are for a person who weighs 150 pounds. The amount of calories you burn during an activity depends on how much you weigh. The more you weigh, the more calories you burn. For example, a person weighing 100 pounds burns only 0.67 times the calories of a person who weighs 150 pounds (100 ÷ 150 = 0.67). So, to find the number of calories a burned in an activity by a person weighing 100 pounds, multiply the number of calories in this chart by 0.67. For a person weighing 200 pounds, multiply by 1.3. To find the number of calories you burn in any activity, divide your weight by 150 and multiply the number of calories in the chart by that number.
