Pre-Movie Review: "Marley & Me," In Theaters December 25, 2008
Marley & Me, Fox 2000. Rated PG-13 for thematic material, some suggestive content and language
This movie, contrary to the ad campaign, is not meant for young children. Profanity, sexually related dialogue, a lengthy sequence involving putting an old dog to ‘sleep’, drinking and drug references, and references to dead fetuses in wombs are not appropriate subject matter for a children’s movie. All of the aforementioned elements are present in Marley & Me. As such, I won’t recommend it nor will I go into this movie fully. If you are looking for a touching movie about a bad dog who affects its owners for the better, go rent My Dog Skip. That is a much better movie and better equipped for a young audience.
I hope this review is helpful in making your decision to go to the movies. Happy watching! - Daisy C.
