Special CD-Rom Software Review
Book: "Feeding a New Baby"
I took my time reviewing this CD-Rom -- there is a lot of information to listen to, read, and absorb :).
I expected this program to contain information about both breastfeeding and formula feeding, which it does. On the other hand, it is very pro-breastfeeding. I feel that mothers should have the right to make their own choices about how they feed their child. There are numerous reasons why mothers choice formula over breastmilk, or breastmilk over formula. It's great to hear how wonderful breastfeeding is, and how you will have healthier, smarter and less fussy babies, etc. But with all of this positive information toward breastfeeding, where are moms going to receive information about formula feeding in a positive light? I must have been mistaken about this CD-Rom titled, "Feeding a New Baby," because if I was planning on feeding my child formula I would feel very discouraged by this program.
Let me first start by saying that I am pro-breastfeeding - I nursed my daughter until one month after her 3rd birthday, but I am also pro-information and pro-choice. I do not tell others that they should not feed their children formula, nor do I prefer to list all the negative things about it. Instead, I feel a better solution is to list all the positive things about breastfeeding, which this program so abundantly does. But what this program also does (and this is strictly my open-minded opinion), is: list the risks of formula and by doing so I feel it would scare new mothers; and I feel it would make new mothers feel badly about not breastfeeding. Some of the information that you'll find on this CD-Rom includes: Breast or bottle facts; bottlefeeding section (good tips. UK terms here - ie: dummies=pacifiers; feed=formula; winding the baby=burping); breastfeeding section; feeding problems; looking after yourself; and more. There is also a section on contacts and references.
MyParenTime.com highly recommends the CD-Rom program, "Feeding a New Baby" to mothers who are thinking about or planning to breastfeed. If a mother has already decided to feed their baby formula, I don't think this is the program for them. If I had planned to feed my child formula and had viewed this CD-Rom, I would have been very offended by all the pro-breastfeeding information. I do recommend this program for anyone wanting to learn more about breastfeeding or formula feeding, but keep in mind that there is a negative tone toward formula feeding. As a former breastfeeding mother, I did learn a lot about formula feeding that I had not known. The program is easy to follow, easy to understand, and easy to operate.
