Special CD Review

"Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep: An Album of Classical Lullabies"

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep: An Album of Classical Lullabies When I received this CD to review, I thought it would be just another CD filled with children's songs. But I was pleasantly surprised. This is a special musical collection that even parents will enjoy, as their babies and young children drift off to sleep.

This CD features the music of Susan Davis on violin, and her husband Eric on acoustic classical guitar. The music that this team has created is sometimes dramatic, yet very soothing. The sound is almost poetic...beautiful melodies that are enhanced by the sounds of the violin and guitar.

My favorite piece is Hushabye Mountain, but there are other enchanting lullabies as well:

  1. Sandmannchen (The Little Sandman) Johannes Brahms
  2. Wiegenlied Johannes Brahms
  3. Hushabye Mountain (from the musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) Richard M. Sherman & Robert B. Sherman
  4. Sweet Dreams (cp.39 c.21) Peter Jlyich Tchaikovsky
  5. Traumerei Robert Schumann
  6. Lullaby (from Erminie) Edward Jakobowski
  7. Summertime (from Porgy & Bess) George Gershwin
  8. Berceuse (from Lyric Pieces Book 2) Edvard Grieg
  9. Nana (Berceuse) Manuel de Falla
  10. Cradle Song Carl Maria von Weber
  11. Wiegenliedchen (Little Cradle Song) Robert Schumann
  12. Evening Hymn (from Elijah) Felix Mendelssohn
  13. Kind im Einschlummern (Child Falling Asleep) Robert Schumann
  14. Cradle Song Johannes Brahms
If it is indeed true that classical music stimulates our brains, and much of the brain develops during infancy, listening to classical music may have an positive affect on our children's brain growth. But the lullabies on this CD are not only for children -- adults will find the music equally enjoyable.

MyParenTime.com highly recommends this CD -- it's a wonderful collection of classical children's lullabies that is sure to please listeners of all ages.
