Special DVD Review
"Gotta Catch Santa Claus"
There are many animated movies that are advertised during the Christmas holidays, and many of them have become classics. When we had the opportunity to review this animated Christmas movie, we jumped at the chance. We thought it might be a great movie for kids...and as it turned out, we were quite pleased.
The movie, "Gotta Catch Santa Claus," which is based on the comic book by Trevor Taylor, gives us a different view of the classic "Santa" movie. The movie starts out with a boy, Trevor, who tries to convince his friend, Veronica, that Santa Claus actually exists. Veronica does not believe in Santa Claus due to scientific reasons...but this movie is far from scientific. When Trevor shoots Santa down from his sleigh with a laser on Christmas Eve, he finally gets his proof that Santa Claus is real and he wants everyone to know. But someone else has been looking to capture Santa Claus as well. LeFreeze, an ice monster with 3 tag-along snowman sidekicks, has his own reasons for wanting revenge on Santa. Throughout the movie the characters break out into song, and by the end, Trevor helps Santa mend his feud with LeFreeze, and helps Santa get back to delivering his Christmas presents. This DVD, released on October 13, 2009, is 66 minutes long, and features William Shatner as Santa, Cory Doran as Trevor, and Lisa Lennox as Veronica. Additional features included on this DVD are deleted scenes, animated Santa 'behind-the-scenes' recording his voice for this movie (including bloopers), and two sing-along songs. MyParenTime.com recommends this movie -- we think young children will love it! There are many original catchy songs throughout, and the animation is brightly colored and attractive. The story is also simple enough for young children to understand, and not at all scary. Not only is this movie great for young children, we think it's a wonderful movie for the entire family.
